Ximena Ureta, renowned for her innovative designs, has crafted a tribute to circus artists worldwide with her latest creation, Butterfly Acrobat. This wine packaging design is a poetic response to the pandemic, symbolizing freedom and hope. The design is part of a trilogy where the graphic stories metaphorically depict women as architects of extraordinary acts, highlighting the sensitive and powerful nature of femininity.
The Butterfly Acrobat Amazing Edition tells the tale of a woman, Mara, who can fly during her circus act. As the mysterious butterfly acrobat, Mara is surrounded by thousands of butterflies that flutter in a colorful torrent under the stage lights. Their flower-shaped wings open and close rhythmically to the music, creating a spectacle for the audience. This design sets itself apart through its unique concept and technical challenges in both design and printing.
The design was realized using digital technology on an HP Indigo 6600 machine and its application of terminations on a Digimon. Printed on Frozen Orion Diamond paper, the design incorporates six colors and various finishes such as Mechanical relief, Mechanical Doming Gold, and a medium-gloss varnish. The wraparound label is printed on self-adhesive paper with a pearly silver textured appearance, resistant to aging and ultraviolet light.
Ureta's design was inspired by her research into the history of the circus, specifically Cirque du Soleil, and the symmetry of butterfly wings. The design successfully incorporates circus graphics, flowers, and fruits in the tasting notes, visually joining the world of butterflies. The label reads, "Bright ruby red, it tempts the nose with aromas of red forest fruits, exhales delicate scents of cherries and raspberries, combined with the smells of earth and brambles."
The Butterfly Acrobat is a testament to Ureta's ability to blend art, design, and technology to create a unique and engaging experience. The design has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award, a prestigious accolade awarded to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.
